This blog will be about the life of a science nerd and the road to being an astrophysicist. Here I will post fun things about space and physics that I find around the internet, as well as my experiences as a physics/astronomy student starting at calculus.
I’m a 25 year old student, going back to school full-time after several years of working full-time and taking classes on the side. Growing up, I wanted to be an astronomer. I was never quite interested in being an astronaut like most kids (and I’m still not!), I just wanted to study the universe. As I got older, I decided I wanted to decode the universe to its source, and settled on theoretical physics. I’m starting a physics degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in fall 2012.
I recently finished my Associate of Arts in History with Phi Theta Kappa honors, because science and history have forever dueled in my head as far as academic majors go. I love ancient history and considered becoming an archaeologist in the Mediterranean, or possibly teaching how fun Thucydides can be if you ignore his dry writing style.
Other than science, I enjoy photography, science fiction/fantasy, computer programming (I worked in IT Operations at a credit union for a year), weight lifting, video games (Skyrim!), animals (I will squee and clap like a five year old at anything panda related), and reading anything I can get my hands on.
